Iria was the first Finnish woman pioneer of abstract painting in America. In the process, she infused Finnish nature and design into every painting — making her body of work a uniquely vibrant cultural fusion of Finland and America. She was a prolific if reclusive painter in her large loft in SoHo, which became a virtual time capsule preserving five decades of innovative abstract and symbolist paintings. Now her legacy is to be shared by both countries.
